Anthony J. Smith received his PhD and MA in Classics from the University of Florida and his BA in Classics from Boston College before coming to the University of Iowa in 2026 where he serves as Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of Classics and Religious Studies. He has completed research on the ancient underworld, the modern reception of classics, Roman poetry, and pedagogy for classics and honors studies. His ongoing activities concern the ancient underworld in the modern reception of classics, bridging the divide between ancient and modern with emerging technologies, exploring innovative methods in classical pedagogy, and building collaborative community-focused projects.
